True Love: Be Your Own Valentine

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it’s time to celebrate LOVE! And by no means am I condoning the cliché practice of purchasing corny Hallmark cards or over-priced boxes of chocolates. That’s not love, that’s consumerism. Instead, I am looking forward to the day as a reminder to acknowledge, appreciate, and proclaim my undying ADORATION for the most important love of my life: ME! It’s true: the most important relationship you will have in your lifetime is the one you have with yourself. And you can’t break up with yourself when you start acting like a jerk, but you’ll always be there to split a bottle of wine with.

It’s been said ad nauseam, but I'll say it again: you can’t depend on someone else to make you happy. True happiness comes from within. I mean, let’s not kid: diamonds (or even a sexy romp) can bring temporary bliss, but does that really feed your SOUL? Because that’s where true love lives: deep down in yourself. And ain’t no one gonna be able to light that flame except YOU!

So this year, be your own Valentine! And I’m not saying to dismiss the love between you and your hunny bunny. Love your boo, too! But love yourself first, and you’ll find your love with others grows stronger, as well.

And even if you don’t have a partner, wear that sexy lingerie! Put on your fancy perfume. Hell, throw on those stripper heels, get in front of the mirror, and give yourself a helluva striptease!

Need some self-love reinforcements? Here are some of my favorite articles on the topic below:

She’s the queen bee of “Radical Self-Love”, and this list is damn beautiful.

  • Veronica Varlow’s Danger Dame “How To Write the Sexiest, Most Passionate Love Letter Ever…to Yourself.
I believe every chick should have another chick that she is utterly inspired and in awe of. Like, a total girl crush on someone they don’t even know. Someone with style and SUBSTANCE. Mine is Veronica Varlow: priestess of magick and burlesque. And I adore this idea of writing a steamy love letter to yourself!
  • The Laughing Medusa “Creating a Magical Daily Practice You Love
Don’t know where to start? Here is a great post about creating daily rituals (I frickin’ love ritual) to support and enhance your practice in self care and adoration.
